Can super breakfast foods kick start weight loss?

Breakfast foods and weight loss

Get the belly off with breakfast

Ok. I finally said enough is enough. On July 1st of this year, I was 198 pounds. Not skinny by any means, but moving in the right direction. Two days ago, I weighed in at 212. A 14 pound gain in less than two months. What caused it? Well, eating an entire box of Captain Crunch w/ Crunchberries in 2 days didn't help. The half gallon of ice cream in 2 days didn't help. Finally, this Cronut probably didn't help either. Like I said earlier, enough was finally enough. The other day, while at the Amazon book store in New York City, I picked up a new book entitled "Zero Belly Breakfasts" by David Zinczenko, who is also the author of another book that has helped me in the past, "Eat this, Not That."

His newest book claims that some people have lost up to 16 pounds in 14 days.  (That's for me!)  It claims to achieve this mainly through focusing on adding certain breakfast foods that kick start your metabolism.  It resurrects the idea and long held belief that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Not just eggs

Some of these foods may be familiar at the breakfast table, like "Steel cut oats" and eggs, but some might not be as familiar, such as asparagus and black beans.  This is not a strictly gluten free diet.  Anyway, the title caught my eye, because I truly do understand how visceral fat (around the belly) can create all kinds of problems.  My back hurts less, when I'm not carrying around a paunch, and I know I definitely sleep better,  so I'm going to document this journey starting today, at 207 pounds.  (I'm down a few pounds from the other day, but I will start at the lower weight)

A new way of thinking

Surprisingly while a reasonable breakfast has long been important, this book focuses on the new science of nutrigenetics.  As explained in the book, this is the study of how food and DNA interact.  So instead of restricting calories, this focuses on "turning off" our fat genes by eating certain foods for breakfast.  Supposedly the recipes attack fat in 3 ways:

  1. Kick start your metabolism
  2. Attack inflamation
  3. Turning off the fat-storage genes

It's worth a try!

Ready, Set..Eat!

It's a bit cliche to say what the author is also quoted as saying: "I'm sick and tired of feeling sick and tired", but it's the truth for me, and really hits the bulls eye as we hit middle age.  Decisions we make are magnified and that is coupled with less available time.  Join me during this short journey and let's see what comes from it.  207 pounds on 8/24/2017.  GO!
